Hunting and Fishing

 

Smithville Lake, Missouri - 1990,  Rick Dykstra and I at Smithville while I was attending Combined Arms Services Staff School (CAS3) at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Smithville Lake was a new lake at that time with a lot of 10 lb+ Largemouth Bass being caught. The best we could do was this one at 6 lbs and some smaller bass.

Breakneck Lake, Ft. Riley, Kansas - 1982, caught these on a buzzbait. The biggest was 5 lbs.

Moon Lake, Ft. Riley, Kansas - 1978, got them on buzzbaits where the creek flows into Moon Lake during October.

Clinton Reservoir, Kansas - 1983, during a Military Bass Angler's Assoc. (MBAA) tournament. Clinton Reservoir was built in the mid 1970's.

Herington City Lake (new), Kansas - 1985, a brand new small lake with some structure back then. Could catch a lot of bass flipping plastic worms and pig & jigs in the old creek bed.

Farm pond outside of Columbia, South Carolina - 1989, back when I was a Company Commander at Ft. Jackson. Went with my Company First Sergeant, 1SG Paul Hensley and my brother, Senior Master Sergeant Kelly Ross (Air Force). Kelly was stationed at Langley Air Force base at the time.

Smithville Lake, Missouri - 1990, we (Rick Dykstra and myself)  caught them on spinnerbaits that day.

Toledo Bend Reservoir, Texas - 1984, during the Military Bass Angler's Assoc (MBAA) National Tournament. Three days of practice, three days of tournament fishing and then had to drive back to Ft. Riley, KS.

Milford Lake, Kansas - 1985, there were always some smallmouth bass on the face of the dam at Milford.

Downstream Pool, Milford Lake, Kansas - 1978, 5 lb Largemouth Bass on a buzzbait in the spring time. The winter prior I had went out on the frozen lake and built a nice rock pile which produced some nice structure when the ice melted. This nice bass came off that rockpile.

Geary County State Lake, Kansas - 1983, another 5 lb Largemouth Bass that was fooled by a pig & jig.

Milford Spillway, Kansas - 1979, could always count on a mixed bag at the Spillway.

Downstream Pool, Milford Lake, Kansas - 1983, caught these in March. Still cold outside. Throwing a Mepps spinner #2 while wade fishing the banks. Lots of reed beds and logs.

Milford Lake, Kansas - 1979, 14 pound Flathead Catfish

Milford Lake, Kansas - 1976, went pheasant hunting with Kenny Sullivan. This was during our Senior year in high school. Party on Friday and Saturday nights and went hunting on Saturdays and Sundays.

Milford Lake, Kansas - 1978, Steve Nelson and I went duck hunting at the "Sugar Bowl" up by Wakefield every Thanksgiving while we were both attending Kansas State University. Steve's dad went with us most of the time.

Near Langley AFB, Virginia - 1988, while I was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC I used to drive up to Langley, AFB where my brother Kelly was stationed. Here is a Whitetail doe.

Ft. Jackson, South Carolina - 1989, went deer hunting quite a bit, shot a few deer while there. Got this small buck with a shotgun, #1 buck shot. Ft. Jackson did a lot of dog drives & man-drives.

Cochise County, Arizona - 1992, shot this Javelina with a bow on January 1st, first day of the archery hunt just northeast of Douglas, AZ. I was stationed at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University teaching Army ROTC at the time. While I was in the U.S. Army I kept my Kansas vehicle tags - "BASSBUM"
